A delivery order is a document issued by a consignee, shipper, freight forwarder, or carrier authorizing cargo release to the party responsible. With the delivery order, the consignee can clear the shipment with customs and deliver it from the terminal, port, or depot.
Delivery orders can be issued directly by the carrier of the shipment or by their authorized agent on behalf of the airline. The delivery order is presented after the bill of lading has been issued and surrendered at the destination. It shows that the transportation or carriage is completed, and the consignee or agent can now arrange cargo delivery after import customs clearance is completed.
