Equipment Interchange Receipt

Equipment Interchange Receipt Definition:

Document needed when a container is transferred from one location or vessel to another.

The equipment interchange receipt (EIR) will show or record the container's details as a verification condition during transfer. It shows the container's condition and who would be responsible for discrepancies or damages. The document tracks the container's movement from its original location to its destination. EIR helps show that the container is seaworthy because the container inspection process is required before it's issued. Your carrier or shipping line is responsible for issuing this document to the shipper to pick up or deliver cargo containers.
