The Port of Virginia is among the most essential ports in the United States. It is located in Hamptons Roads and is a major gateway to international trade due to its enormous container handling capacity. The Virginia Port Authority manages the Port of Virginia, but Virginia International Terminals operates it. It's renowned for its multiple terminals, advanced infrastructure, and reliable rail and road connectivity. The Port of Virginia is also underway to deepen its channel to 50 feet.
Container Transport moves all types of containers. Whether yours is fully loaded, empty, half-empty, or customized, we will move it.
The primary container terminals for the Port of Virginia are discussed below.
Norfolk International Terminals (NIT)
The terminal, abbreviated NIT, is located in Norfolk, Virginia. It is at least 567 acres and designed to accommodate large volumes of containers and their cargo efficiently. The terminal has a deep-water harbor and state-of-the-art technology to handle the largest container ships.
NIT also has multiple berths with Super Post-Panamaz cranes. Norfolk Southern and CSX operate its rail and truck connectivity, and modern truck gates allow for easy cargo shipment. Additionally, it has other advanced technology, such as ASCs (automated stacking cranes).
Port of Virginia – Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT)
The Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) is strategically positioned along the Elizabeth River. It was formerly renowned for its break-bulk, containerized cargo, and general cargo handling. However, today, it's also a support for wind energy projects. It's at least 287 acres, a relatively small portion of the Port of Virginia terminals. It has three berths spanning at least 3,549 feet of wharf with multiple gantry cranes. Like NIT, PMT has direct access to various rail networks and access to major highways. The terminal's depth is 43 feet, which can accommodate large vessels.
